The Hawker Hurricane was the inaugural British single-engine fighter and the first monoplane equipped with retractable landing gear, an enclosed cockpit, and eight machine guns.
The Hurricane entered operational service in December 1937 with the RAF's 111 Squadron.
Often overshadowed by the Spitfire in discussions of the Battle of Britain, it is important to note that 80% of the 1,792 German aircraft that were downed can be attributed to the Hurricane.
In total, 14,533 Hurricanes were manufactured across all variants.
