Celebrating Boeing’s Centennial with Flightstore
Since their foundation on July 15th, 1916, Boeing began to set the standards for all things aviation. Continually soaring over barriers and redefining the industry of air travel, Boeing is head and shoulders above the field, and can deservedly claim to be the number one aerospace force worldwide. With innovative aircrafts across a range of fields – defense & military, spaceflight, and commercial; Boeing’s products are the result of a time-tested successful approach of demanding each engineer, scientist and technician go above and beyond to reshape the future of the dynamics of aerospace travel. Boeing’s namesake, Bill Boeing, lived and breathed his work with the now iconic motto ‘build something better’.
Most true to this maxim, perhaps, is the popular Boeing 747. Released to overwhelming media attention and public interest in 1969, the 747 was truly a group effort with an approximate, 50, 000 strong team (nicknamed the ‘Incredibles’, way before Disney Pixar had the idea) banding together to execute the most ambitious of projects from the ground-up in just 16 months – a truly astonishing feat of human persistence and ingenuity. The 747 became the largest civilian aircraft in the world and is now one of the most acclaimed and famous machines in aviation history.
As monumental as the 747 was, and is, it’s only a fragment of the true scope of the Boeing team’s achievements over their 100-year span. Boeing’s centennial celebrations will include the premiere of a 5-part documentary, exhibits around the world and the release of a plethora of historic archive footage and materials.
Flightstore are an authorised dealer of Boeing line products and we simply had to get involved with the ‘Boeing 100’ celebrations, we previously showcased the historic maiden flight of the Boeing 737 MAX, and in this blog post we’re going to show off some of our favourite products from the official Boeing Collection.
