What are diecast aircraft models?
Diecast aircraft models are scale replicas cast from metal alloy and painted with authentic livery details, markings and registrations. Unlike plastic model kits, diecast models arrive fully assembled and painted with no glue, no paint and no workbench time required. They are the preferred choice for serious collectors who want maximum display impact with minimum preparation.
Diecast civil airliner models
Our civil airliner diecast range is the broadest part of the collection, covering current-fleet aircraft from the world's major carriers alongside retired liveries, heritage schemes and limited-edition releases.
1:400 scale is the most popular scale for airline collectors. At 1:400, a Boeing 747 measures approximately 18cm - compact enough to display dozens side by side in a standard display case. Gemini Jets and JC Wings are the dominant brands at this scale, with NG Models, Phoenix Models and AeroClassics also producing well-regarded 1:400 releases. We stock over 230 diecast aircraft models in 1:400 scale.
1:200 scale is double the size - a 747 measures around 36cm - and is the scale most collectors move to when they want greater visual impact and finer surface detail. InFlight 200, Gemini Jets G2 and Hogan Wings produce the benchmark 1:200 releases. We stock over 500 diecast models in 1:200 scale.
Our most popular airline collections in diecast include British Airways (37 models), American Airlines (35 models), Emirates, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Delta Air Lines, Air France, Air Canada, Aer Lingus and Air New Zealand, with a substantial selection of retro and heritage liveries for collectors seeking rarer pieces.
Military diecast aircraft models
Our military diecast range covers the full sweep of aviation history, from WWI biplanes through WWII fighters and bombers to Cold War jets and current combat aircraft.
Corgi Aviation Archive is the benchmark name for military diecast in the UK. Corgi produces predominantly in 1:72 scale, covering iconic WWII subjects including the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster, Halifax, Mosquito and Wellington alongside USAAF aircraft. Each model comes in a collector's presentation box with an illustrated historical leaflet.
Hobby Master produces highly detailed military diecast predominantly in 1:72 and 1:48 scale, covering Cold War and modern combat aircraft in unprecedented detail. Popular subjects include the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet, F-35 Lightning II, Eurofighter Typhoon and many more - plus WWII subjects and early jets.
Oxford Diecast produces detailed 1:72 military aircraft at accessible price points, making it an ideal entry point for the military diecast category.
Popular military subjects in our diecast range include Spitfires, Hurricanes, Lancasters, Typhoons, F-14 Tomcats and F-15 Eagles. Concorde diecast models in both British Airways and Air France liveries are among our most frequently sought pieces.
Diecast aircraft brands — which to choose
With over a dozen manufacturers producing diecast aircraft, choosing between brands can be daunting for new collectors. Here's a guide to the main names in our range:Gemini Jets - The market leader for 1:400 civil airliner diecast. Gemini produces consistent, accurate models across a huge range of airline liveries. Their G2 series covers the same subjects in 1:200. The most widely collected brand globally.
JC Wings - Strong competition for Gemini Jets at 1:400 and 1:200, often releasing liveries Gemini doesn't cover. Particularly well regarded for Asian and Middle Eastern carrier releases.
InFlight 200 - Specialist 1:200 diecast with a reputation for exceptional paint quality and precise livery accuracy. Favoured by serious collectors at the premium end.
Hogan Wings - Quality 1:200 diecast, particularly strong on European carrier releases and older heritage liveries.
Phoenix Models - 1:400 and 1:200 releases known for competitive pricing and good livery selection, including many carriers not covered by the larger brands.
NG Models - A rapidly growing brand producing 1:400 releases with very high standards for livery accuracy and mould quality.
Corgi Aviation Archive - The UK's definitive military diecast brand, producing 1:72 models of historically significant aircraft. Collectable presentation, quality construction.
Hobby Master - Premium military diecast in 1:72 and 1:48 scale. The benchmark brand for Cold War and modern combat aircraft in diecast form.
Oxford Diecast - Versatile brand covering both civil and military subjects at 1:72, with strong WWII coverage and accessible pricing.
Frequently asked questions about diecast aircraft models
What is the best diecast aircraft brand?
For civil airliners, Gemini Jets and JC Wings are the most highly regarded brands at 1:400 scale; InFlight 200 and Hogan Wings are considered benchmarks at 1:200. For military diecast, Corgi Aviation Archive (1:72, UK) and Hobby Master (1:72 and 1:48, cold war and modern jets) are the two most respected names. The best brand depends on whether you collect civil or military subjects, and which scale you prefer.
What is the difference between 1:400 and 1:200 diecast aircraft models?
At 1:400 scale, a Boeing 747 measures approximately 18cm - ideal for building a large collection in a compact display space. At 1:200, the same aircraft measures approximately 36cm, offering significantly more surface detail and shelf presence. Most serious collectors start at 1:400 for the breadth of choice and eventually add 1:200 pieces where they want greater visual impact.
Are diecast aircraft models ready to display?
Yes - all diecast aircraft models in our range are fully assembled and painted, requiring no additional building or painting. Most 1:400 and 1:200 scale civil airliner models come with a transparent display stand included. Military diecast (Corgi, Hobby Master) typically come in a presentation box without a separate stand.
How do I clean and care for diecast aircraft models?
Diecast aircraft should be kept away from direct sunlight and handled by the fuselage rather than the wings or undercarriage, which are the most fragile parts. Dust regularly with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth. Avoid water and solvents, which can strip the livery printing. Stored correctly, diecast aircraft last for decades - many original Corgi and early Gemini Jets models from the 1990s remain in excellent condition.
What is the most popular diecast airline for collectors?
British Airways is consistently the most collected airline in the UK, with a huge range of current and heritage liveries available across multiple scales and brands. American Airlines, Emirates, Lufthansa and Air France are also perennially popular. Retro and heritage liveries - particularly BOAC, BEA and early British Caledonian - command a premium and sell quickly.
Do you stock limited edition and new release diecast models?
Yes - we receive new diecast releases from Gemini Jets, JC Wings, NG Models, Phoenix Models, InFlight 200 and Hogan Wings as soon as stock arrives. New releases and pre-order items are listed as soon as they are confirmed. Sign up to the Flightstore newsletter to be among the first to know about new diecast releases and limited-edition liveries.
