Measuring 295 mm in length and 428 mm in wingspan, this model captures the legendary bomber in all its splendour.
The Avro Lancaster was the most renowned heavy bomber of the RAF during the Second World War, entering service in 1942. Over 7,300 of these aircraft were constructed for RAF Bomber Command. A key objective for the RAF was to eliminate the Ruhr dams, which provided essential power to significant industrial facilities.
To effectively target such formidable structures as dams or barrages, a specialised rotating bomb was created, commonly referred to as the "bouncing bomb." For this mission, a dedicated unit was formed, known as 617 Squadron, led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson. This operation, codenamed "Operation Chastise," was executed with 19 Lancaster bombers on the night of May 16th to 17th, 1943. The initial two dams, Mohne and Eder, were successfully destroyed, while the remaining two, Ennepe and Sorpe, resisted the assault.
