Limited to only 64 sets worldwide, this is your chance to own a stunning collectible coin set that includes the signature of former Yellowjacks pilot and founder member of the Red Arrows, Henry Prince AFC.

The set comprises of two 2" diameter coins in a stunning presentation box.

The obverse of the first coin features an interpretation of a Yellowjacks patch should the team have carried on for longer than one season. We have incorporated areas of 3D detail in to the patch design to bring it to life. The reverse depicts the 4 Flying Training School (FTS) crest in 3D detail against the striking yellow that the five Gnat aircraft were painted in.

The second coin depicts the Yellowjacks in formation against a blue sky, trailing white smoke once again using 3D relief.  The Royal Air Force Valley station crest is shown on the reverse, this is where the Yellowjacks were based as all the pilots were instructors on the Gnat at the time.

These coins have been produced in partnership with Phoenix Challenge Coins using their Armor™ and Armor Shield™ processes.

Accompanying the coins is the signature of former Yellowjacks team member, Henry Prince, that was obtained during 2017 by Club Coins UK owner Tom. Read more about Henry here:

Henry Prince joined the Royal Air Force in 1953. After initial flying on the Tiger Moth and Chat Nottingham UAS he trained in Canada,on the Harvard and T-33. Back in England he then flew Vampires and Meteors prior to posting to No.56 Squadron at Waterbeach flying the HunterMk5. He then did a tour in Aden where he again flew the Meteor as well as the Venom and the Pembroke. On return from Aden and completing the CFS course he instructed on the Jet Provost3 & 4.He was then selected as one of the initial batch of instructors on the new Advanced Flying trainer the Folland Gnat.

It was whilst instructing on the Folland Gnat at 4 FTS, RAF Valley, that Henry became part of The Yellowjacks aerobatic display team. Formed in 1964 and painted in a striking gloss yellow, the team was made up of five Gnats led by Flt Lt Lee Jones who had previously been a member of the Black  Arrows. Their call sign was “Blackjack” and led to the call sign ” Yellowjack” being adopted by the team. Throughout the 1964 display season the team became well known and loved, drawing the attention of the RAF hierarchy at the Farnborough air show. It was decided to bring The Yellowjacks under the command of the Central Flying School (CFS), add two further aircraft, paint them red and rebrand them for 1965 as The Red Arrows.

Henry, now a founder member of The Red Arrows, flew in and led the Synchro Pair during his time with the team. He was appointed Deputy Leader of the team in 1966 and remained in that post until his time with the Red Arrows came to an end in 1967. Henry was awarded the Air Force Cross in recognition of his work whilst on The Red Arrows team.
