This is the MoD-approved (and contracted) Haynes & Cann Type '65 flying boot worn by the Royal Navy, RAF and British army aircrew. It is the 'staple' flight boot; the boot for discerning armed-forces.
Like never before, Haynes and Cann flight boots are no longer limited to military personnel, and can be purchased new by individual pilots and commercial organisations.
The original Haynes & Cann Ltd was formed in August 1919, and was part of the famous Northampton shoe making industry beofre WWII. During WWII Haynes and Cann were selected by the MoD to provide footwear to all aircrews, and these contracts continued after the war, through the cold war and into the new millenium
HRH Prince Andrew was wearing the 1965 boot style at Port Stanley post Falklands War 1982 where he served as a pilot on NAS 820 anti submarine squadron along with the current director of Haynes and Cann Company.
The Type 65 were designed for flight crew, and to allow them to fly an aircraft in comfort, and without any points that might catch in the cockpit or exiting quickly from the cockpit. The boots were also remownd for their comfort. The boots themselves reduced the fatigue associated with long flights in enclosed spaces and helped to correct poor foot position.
We currently produce to the original military (MoD) specification.
You will find the boots very well made, very comfortable, and flexible enough to the extent you'll know these have been designed just for aviation
