Navigation
Important information about all airfields, such as
frequency and runway info, can be retrieved directly either by using the
airfield code or the name of the airfield.
More airfields can be added to the
system manually.
The system automatically calculates a
basic route to your desired destination and displays the route on the map.
Track, Bearing
The arrow on the map shows the direction in
which you have to fly in order to reach your destination. A second bar shows
how far off track you are.
If you prefer a classical Track and
Bearing display, you can switch to it at any time.
The system displays
your distance to the destination and to the next route point. It will also give
an ETA to both waypoints and destination.
Nearest Airfield
When you touch the
Nearest Airfield button a list of nearest airfields, arranged
according to distance, appears. Select your desired airfield, and
the system immediately cancels your current route and directs you to the
selected airfield.
Route Planning
You can plan your
complete flight with Flymap directly onto the PDA. The system will generate a
line between your chosen start and destination and then you can insert
waypoints and alter the route to avoid controlled and prohibited airspace
depending on your preferences.
Speed Vector and Flight Information
In front of the aircraft, a speed vector line shows where the
aircraft will be in ten minutes.
Pocket Flymap also displays other
useful flight information such as Distance/Time to destination, airspeed,
height and altitude.
Choice of Maps
Pocket Flymap can incorporate almost any
map within reason so that you can always fly with a map that is familiar to
you.
Terrain Height Display
Flymap can give a visual indication of the height of
surrounding terrain. The terrain display activates as soon as the height above
ground falls below 500ft. Yellow Areas: The height above ground
is between 100ft and 500ft
Red Areas: The height above
ground is below 100ft, or the terrain is higher than your current flight level
Weather Radar Display
With Flymap's Weather Radar
function, you can be abreast of the latest rain forecast for your area. Because
you can update the weather via GSM (mobile phone) you can always be up to date.
Not only that, but the system can download the weather radar images for the
previous hour, which can then be animated to show the trend and you can make a
better informed decision about when and where to fly.
Airspace Warning
If you are likely to enter
restricted airspace, the system brings up a box containing information on the
airspace such as distance, class and upper and lower limit information. It also
outlines the restricted airspace clearly in red.
"North Up" or "Course Up"
You can choose between two ways to
display the map: Course Up and North Up..
When
you select Course Up, the map will circle around the airplane
symbol. The system will place the aircraft near to the bottom of the screen.
Advantage: The visible area ahead of
the airplane is maximised.
When the North Up display
is selected you will see the map in the conventional orientation with the
aircraft symbol rotating instead of the map.
Advantage: The conventional layout is
simple to understand.
Automatic Flight Logs
You will never forget a flight: The system
automatically records all flights including, date, time, start and
destination.
The system can also record exactly where you have flown on
a second by second basis so that you can review your flights later in Flymap
Win
Checklists
Flymap allows you to create as many checklists as you
need for an unlimited number of aircraft so that can be sure always to follow
the correct procedures.
Digital Instruments
You can switch to a virtual instrument display at any
time. The system can show a Directional Indicator, Turn indicator and a
Vertical Speed Indicator.
There are also the standard displays of
Groundspeed, Distance to Destination and Altitude.
With an optional
Artificial Horizon module, the system can also display a virtual horizon.
