This publication covers the requirements for initial issue of a JAA Flight Crew Licence and also the requirements for holders of National Flight Crew Licences wishing to convert to a JAA Licence. For holders of professional flight crew licences additional knowledge of JAR-OPS 1 or 3, aeroplanes or helicopters respectively, is also required which is covered in our sister publication A Guide to JAR-OPS. JAR-FCL Parts 1 and 3 had an implementation date of the 1st July 1999 and JAR-FCL Part 2 six months later on the 1st January 2000. At the time of writing only Denmark, Iceland and the UK had implemented parts 1 through 3.
