Helicopter Pilots Handbook of Mountain Flying
An Airlife's Pilots Hanbook

When the basic skills of flying a helicopter have been mastered and practised, there may come a time when further, more sophisticated piloting skills are required. Often, this involves operating over difficult terrain or in demanding circumstances. This book gives sound guidance and advice on how to evaluate and prepare for many of those situations. Mountains and their foothills present some of the most frequently encountered difficulties for pilots who have little or no experience of their unique meteorological and geographical peculiarities. Much of this book is devoted to explaining the dangers that may befall the unwary pilot and how to plan for many of the possible problems that may occur when flying over this type of landscape.

  • The second part of the book is concerned with other advanced flying techniques for dealing with underslung loads, night operations, forced landings, winter operations, visual secrets and winching.
