About the author
Martin Cass started flying in 1962 at Shoreham Airport, Sussex and became a flying instructor at Shoreham in 1964. In 1978 he joined British Island Airways as a first officer on the Dart Herald and subsequently crewed the BAC 1-11 and McDonnell Douglas MD-83. After the sad and sudden demise of BIA in 1990, Martin went back to the BAC 1-11 with London European, Luton. Finally, having flown a total of 13,000 hours, he completed four more happy years on the noisy but nice 1-11, with British World Airlines at Stanstead and Copenhagen.
