A True Adventure flying a small plane on an exciting journey
A True Adventure flying a small plane on an exciting journey with some of the crazy things that happened en route.
It all started innocently enough when Joe invited me down to Cornwall for a few days. Having a private pilots licence, he hired a small plane from Denham airport and we flew down to a private airstrip in the depths of South West England. Deciding that flying was fun, I started the long road in obtaining my basic licence and continuing up to a Commercial qualification with various add-on bits. Little did I realise that one day I would be flying a small plane similar to the one Joe and I flew down to Cornwall in; some 5,400 plus miles along with fuel leaks, thunderstorms, armed guards, and with an engine breakdown in Greenland. From Florida to England and various destinations en route with all the problems and excitement that can only be experienced when achieving ones dream in short hops. Big planes do it every day, but in a little plane you are in control to go wherever you wish, whenever you want. Besides which, a Boeing 747 cannot land in a field. This book is that story, and hopefully an inspiration to all would-be pilots and those seeking adventure even in todays new world.
Cessna 336 registration Golf Papa India X-ray Sierra you are cleared to enter Heathrow Control zone and to continue to central London. Identify yourself under special security clearance. That bit was ok, it was the complaint from Her Majesty at the Palace about the noise from our plane which was concerning. But then I did not know that she was having a garden party at the time, and the machine I was flying was a little loud. Blame it onto Cessna who like so many light aircraft builders forget to put a silencer system on their engines. The bad thing being that this was the second complaint, albeit over the period of one year. You try driving down Oxford Street in a Formula-racing car and you can visualise the type of noise the plane was creating, except the Formula car would be faster and certainly more exhilarating.
